LIBERAL CUTS HURT FORDE SCHOOLS

January 27, 2017

At this time of year, as school goes back, many parents are thinking about their kids’ education, and what the future holds. Under Malcolm Turnbull and the Liberals, the future for schools in the electorate of Forde looks grim.

Nationwide, the Liberals are cutting $30 billion from schools – thatʼs like sacking one in seven teachers. Here in the electorate of Forde, our schools will lose more than $30 million over the next few years alone.

These cuts will hurt our local schools. Theyʼll mean fewer teachers, less one-on-one attention, and students left behind.

Theyʼll mean students getting less help with the basics like reading, writing, maths, science, and computer skills.

Forde schools do terrific work, but they are at risk of losing much needed funding. Like the Windaroo Primary School, who stand to lose more than $300 000 in needs based funding. The school is currently using that money for literacy coaching and improving the school’s technology.

It’s a similar story for many schools in the region, which were starting to get real outcomes for kids learning through needs based funded programs.

The Liberals’ cuts to schools means these programs are going to be scrapped.

Malcolm Turnbull and the Liberals are cutting funding from schools because they think you should only get a good education if you can afford to pay. The Liberals can’t find money for schools, but they can find money for a big business tax cut.

Your local member, Bert Van Manen, should be standing beside teachers and parents and demanding that schools receive the funding they deserve.

Instead, he’d rather kowtow to Malcolm Turnbull, and the rest of the LNP. You canʼt trust the Liberals on education.

Labor believes getting a good education is the ticket to a lifetime of opportunity. Labor believes education is critical to ensure Australia has a strong economy with secure jobs.”
