APPOINTMENT AS SHADOW MINISTER FOR QUEENSLAND RESOURCES

January 28, 2021

SENATOR MURRAY WATT
SHADOW MINISTER FOR NORTHERN AUSTRALIA
SHADOW MINISTER FOR DISASTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
SHADOW MINISTER FOR QUEENSLAND RESOURCES
LABOR SENATOR FOR QUEENSLAND

APPOINTMENT AS SHADOW MINISTER FOR QUEENSLAND RESOURCES

I am honoured to be appointed as Labor’s Shadow Minister for Queensland Resources, in addition to my roles as Shadow Minister for Northern Australia, and Shadow Minister for Disaster and Emergency Management.

Labor supports Queensland’s world-leading resources sector because it creates jobs, royalties and export revenue for our state and our nation.

I’ve spent a lot of time in Queensland mines, from Moranbah to Mt Isa, and worked with mining unions, workers and communities to ensure they are treated fairly.

I’m now keen to build on my past work, as a champion for one of our state’s most important industries and the hardworking people who drive it.

As I’ve said before, our coal, gas and other resource industries have a strong future and we should treasure every job they produce.

I also understand the importance of a cleaner energy future and I look forward to working with the Queensland resources sector to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Queensland has got a tough road ahead post-pandemic, and resources will be an important part of that recovery.

I am excited to work with the new Shadow Minister for Resources Madeleine King in supporting our resources industry and the jobs that come with it.
